What is Exercise Physiology?
Exercise physiologists study the effect of exercise on the body, and the mechanisms by which exercise can reduce or reverse disease, support optimal health, and aid in recovery from injury or surgery.
We believe exercise is medicine, and prescribe exercise to treat, or prevent health conditions and injuries in the same way a doctor might prescribe medication. We work alongside your GP, specialist and other allied health to best support your recovery and return to health.
At Pear, we are passionate about Women's Health, and our Exercise Physiologists are the leading experts in Australia on exercise to support pregnancy, birth, menopause, injury rehabilitation and surgical rehabilitation post mastectomy and hysterectomy.
Our appointments include exercise delivery, education and support to help you both within the gym and at home. We are the experts in rehabilitation - don't be scared off by our title, we work with you where ever you are starting when it comes to physical activity and exercise.
At Pear we offer specialised Exercise Physiologist services for women who are pregnant or a new mum, dealing with cancer or a chronic disease or any general women’s health conditions.
What to expect from your initial appointment
When attending an Exercise Physiology appointment, we ask that you wear comfortable clothing you can move well in, closed in shoes and bring clean grippy socks for use on the Pilates equipment.
At your prescreening appointment with our Exercise Physiologists we take any relevant medical history, relevant clinical care plans, look at your biomechanics and perform some movement tests (i.e. how your body is moving when you walk, or if you have any restrictions in your range of movement) and work with you one on one with our equipment.
We will also give you a homework exercise program to begin. No scribbled stick figures here, we use PhysiApp, a free download for IOS & Android to follow along with your homework exercise program via videos and where you can record your process.
We will come up with a plan together, with review appointments, home programs, small group classes providing a combination of support for your movement and health goals.
